Vintage Stockholm City Military Corps Officer Button, 24 mm – C.C. Sporrong & Co
This Vintage Stockholm City Military Corps Officer Button (24 mm) is a rare and historically significant Swedish uniform accessory, produced by the distinguished C.C. Sporrong & Co, Stockholm. Originally issued to officers of the Military Corps of the Stockholm City Burghers, this button represents an important chapter in Sweden’s civic and military history.
The obverse features the Stockholm city coat of arms, depicting Saint Erik (King Erik IX) crowned and facing forward, a symbol of protection and authority in Sweden’s capital. The intricate design is framed by a smooth gilt edge, typical of early to mid-20th-century Sporrong craftsmanship. The reverse is marked “C.C. SPORRONG & CO STOCKHOLM”, confirming the maker and authenticity.
Measuring 23–24 mm in diameter and made from gilt brass, this button was part of the formal officer’s dress uniform. When the Stockholm City Military Corps was disbanded, its insignia and equipment — including this button design — were transferred to the Stockholm Police Corps, linking the piece directly to both military and law enforcement history.
The button remains in excellent vintage condition, with bright gilt color, clear details, and minimal wear. The shank on the reverse is intact, showing careful preservation. This button is not only a fine example of Swedish uniform artistry but also a tangible symbol of the city’s transition from armed civic defense to organized modern policing.
A must-have for collectors of Swedish militaria, police insignia, or Stockholm historical artifacts, this Stockholm City Officer Button captures the enduring heritage of Sweden’s capital and the craftsmanship of C.C. Sporrong & Co.
